The Purpose (Mission)
  • District Objective: Give the students technology training and skills in a self-directed, self-paced way
  • Student Objective: Develop necessary 21st century technology skills and put them into practice
Gamification
  • This student-paced, student-driven way to move through technology lessons is based on gamification.  Students will move through Courses (called “Levels”) and will earn points for the successful completion of each lesson (called “Challenges” or "Modules").

  • Students will have open access to their level and all of the Challenges within that level.  They can choose which Challenges to complete.

  • After earning an established amount of points, they will unlock the next level.  Once a new level is unlocked, students can begin working on those Challenges (although they can always “work down” and complete challenges in lower levels later).

Levels

  • Each level contains an assortment of technology lessons (called "Challenges" or "Modules").  The levels are loosely based on difficulty and importance.

  • Necessary beginner technology skills are cultivated in the lower levels while sophisticated and advanced opportunities for learning take place in the upper levels.

Challenges

  • Each challenge is worth a designated number of points depending on the Level it is associated with.  For example, all challenges in Level 1 are worth 1 point.  All challenges in level 8 are with 8 points each.  Each challenge is made available within the Course Modules and can be accessed at any time.

  • Each challenge includes learning materials, which could be video tutorials or text information designed to educate the student on that particular skill.  At the conclusion of each challenge and to earn completion points, students will have to do a completion assignment.  Depending on the challenge, this might be a survey, short answer question, multiple question quiz or the creation of a product and example.  If the final submission of the student is acceptable, the student will be awarded with their Challenge Points.
